

WE STAND IN REMEMBRANCE OF …
Aaron, Anthony and Randall — three enslaved people who lost their lives to racial terror in Washington County Arkansas in 1856 after being accused of murdering their enslaver. An accusation based only on hearsay evidence.
The Washington County Community Remembrance Project Coalition, a group of University of Arkansas and Fayetteville citizens committed to addressing painful themes in troubling racial history of our community. WCCRP unveiled the memorial marker on May 15, 2021 in the historic Oaks cemetery to venerate three victims of historic racial terror.

The Equal Justice Initiative in partnership with the Washington County Community Remembrance Project also held a scholarship contest open to 9th – 12th grade students attending public school in Washington County, where prizes totaling at least $5,000 were awarded to winning participants.
